Compliance and certifications
OurNews is built to comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, and with the GDPR and UK GDPR for schools in those jurisdictions.
We have committed to beginning the Safer Technologies 4 Schools (ST4S) assessment during the founding pilot, with the goal of holding it at public launch. ST4S is the assessment most commonly asked for by Australian and New Zealand schools. We are also working towards SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001. We don’t yet hold a product-level certification, but many of the practices these certifications assess already shape how OurNews is built: encryption at rest and in transit, least-privilege access with multi-factor authentication, automated tenant-isolation checks on every deploy, and a documented review of every vendor that touches school data.
Before public launch
OurNews will complete an independent legal and security review before public launch. The Standard Terms may change when OurNews launches publicly; a school is notified at least 30 days before any change takes effect, and a change takes effect at the school’s next renewal.
