The founding cohort is set and the pilot is underway. The waiting list is the way in: join it and we will email you before OurNews opens in early 2027.
OurNews is built to be a lightweight addition to your core ICT and communication infrastructure - so if you already use Compass, Schoolbox or Veracross, OurNews sits alongside it, not instead of it. There’s nothing to connect or integrate, and no overlap with your SIS. Most schools don’t have a specific ‘platform’ for external communication, but they do use a combination of social media, website, PDF newsletters and tools best suited for internal communication. We see OurNews as a way of consolidating these.
You choose per story. Visibility sets who can find it: anyone, or only people who came in through your school’s Community Link. Access sets who can read it: anyone, or people who confirm an email. A stranger sees only the title, date and tags of a story whose Access is Email required. To read the rest, they confirm an email address. We store your content on encrypted servers.
If we ever decide not to keep building OurNews, we will tell you in writing. You can export your content, and we keep the service running for a wind-down period of at least 90 days. The export is a usable archive with one folder per story. Each story is a plain markdown file with its attachments bundled alongside. Because these are plain files, you can open them, read them and move them elsewhere, whatever happens to OurNews. Our continuity page at /trust/continuity says what happens to your stories if OurNews winds down. The continuity page also covers how we restore OurNews after a serious failure.
