OurNews Child-Directed Privacy Notice

What this is for

Sometimes a story on OurNews is set so you need to check an email before you can read it. This page explains what happens when you do that, in plain words.

What we ask for, and why

We ask for an email address. We send a 6-digit code to that address. You type the code back in, and then you can read the story.

We do this so the school knows who asked to see it. Every check is written down and the school can see that list.

What we keep, and for how long

  • We keep the email address for 12 months, then we delete it.
  • We keep the IP address of the device you used for 90 days, then we delete it.
  • We do not ask your name, your age, or anything else.

Who can see this

The school that published the story can see the list of checks, including the email address and the date. Nobody else at OurNews looks at this list unless there is a problem to sort out.

Your rights

You or a parent or carer can ask the school, or email us at hello@bolsta.education, to see what we have kept about a check, or to ask us to delete it. We answer within 30 days.

Who to ask if something feels wrong

Talk to a parent, carer or teacher first. They can also email us directly at hello@bolsta.education, and we will help.
