Continuity
Version 1.0 · Last updated 3 September 2026
You can export any time, without asking
- Everything your school has published in OurNews can be exported at any time, in an open format, without asking us and without charge.
- The export is a single zip with one folder per story: the story as a plaintext markdown file, openable in any text editor, with its photos and documents bundled alongside and linked in place. It is not locked to OurNews and opens on its own.
If OurNews is unavailable
- OurNews does not yet make a formal uptime commitment, and there may be short periods of downtime.
- We expect to introduce a formal service level commitment when OurNews moves to general availability.
Backups
- The database is backed up daily, held in your school’s region. Stored media is kept with versioning, so a deleted or overwritten file can be recovered for 7 days.
- A deleted or taken-down item is removed from the live system immediately and purged from backups within 7 days.
If your school leaves
- You have 30 days after your account ends to pull a final export.
- After that, School Content is removed and backup copies purge within 7 days.
If OurNews winds down
If we ever decide not to continue OurNews, we will:
- tell every school in writing
- keep the service running for at least 90 days from that notice
- help every school export its content
